A Raw Meaty Bones lobby group was being formed in Australia in the late 80's early 90's and was being steered by Drs.Lonsdale, Muir and Bennet. Dr Ian Billinghurst was also involved for a short while resigning in 1997.
These days "RMB" is almost 100% associated with Dr. Tom Lonsdale, whose passion for the cause against major manufacturers, of processed dog food, has made many of his peers hostile.
So hostile in fact that his own Australian Veterinary Association expelled him back in 2004!
In the State Parliament of New South Wales,Australia a Mr Paul Lynch brought the matter up in the Legislative Assembly on 13 May 2004 saying Dr Lonsdale was the victim of a "Kangaroo Court" formed because vets and associates FUNDED BY PET FOOD companies were hostile.
Tom Lonsdale is a member of the British Veterinary Association and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
So passionate is he for the cause against manufacturers of low grade dog food that he travels the world giving lectures on why owners should steer clear and feed a Raw Meaty Bones diet.>
RMB vs BARF.
Mine may be a too simplistic view but it seems to me that the difference between these two dog food options is "will that be WITH or WITHOUT vegetables"!
Whichever method you decide to support the main change will be you will now be feeding an unprocessed diet.
Certainly the United Kingdom seems to be taking notice of the "RMB" dog food concept as indicated here;
2004 UK Parliament Early Day Motion 335 : "applauds and recommends the work of veterinary surgeon Tom Lonsdale".
2005 UK Parliament Early Day Motion 1003 : "acknowledges the evidence and analysis in the book Raw Meaty Bones by Tom Lonsdale".
2006 UK Parliament is presented to by Dr Tom Lonsdale.
With lecture tours of Belgium, China, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States and of course in Australia this is an epic effort and demonstrates his commitment to his cause of enlightening dog owners and governments.
Is it not a shame that more of his peers worldwide do not look more closely at the pet food they are peddling for profit!
There are two books authored by Tom Lonsdale the first of which was "Raw Meaty Bones" from 2001 and more recently "Work Wonders"
Both are worthy contenders for inclusion in your dog health library.
ATTENTION Dr Tom Lonsdale:- Never forget David (you) did win over Goliath (major pet food companies)!
