Orijen Dog Food is manufactured by Champion PetFoods of Canada.
Orijen is a brand that,in my humble opinion, stands head and shoulders above all others!
Unfortunately this product is not available in Australia.(*)
It is tagged as a "Biologically Appropriate Food" made from Fresh Regional Ingredients.
This food is high in protein, low in carbs., grain free, uses fresh meats, has no plant oils, includes some fruit and vegetables, has healthy botanicals and is mineral balanced.
Using Free Range land animal meat "fit for human consumption" and Wild Caught Fish, all of which are delivered fresh (not frozen) daily, this product can honestly claim to be as good as it gets for freshness!
There are no antibiotic or growth hormone enhancements.
For my money ORIJEN DOG FOOD "ADULT" is amazing value with 10 high quality ingredients (7 are meat!), before we get to naturally preserved chicken fat! This is then followed by another 4 meat ingredients out of the next 5!!
Example of main ingredient list Orijen Grain-Free Adult Dry Dog Food;
Ingredients - Fresh deboned chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, russet potato, fresh deboned pacific salmon (a natural source of DHA and EPA), herring meal, sweet potato, peas, fresh deboned lake whitefish, fresh deboned northern walleye, chicken fat (naturally preserved with vitamin E and citric acid), chicken liver, salmon meal, fresh deboned turkey, fresh whole eggs, fresh deboned herring, sun-cured alfalfa, salmon oil, chicory root, dehydrated organic kelp, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, turnip greens, apples, cranberries, saskatoon berries, black currants,
Also "6 Fish Dog" is in a class of its' own, and would make an excellent choice as part of a variety menu for your dog.
Special formulas of are available for Puppy, Puppy Large, Adult and Senior dogs.
All of the product range boasts quality ingredients, and represents true value for your hard earned money!
From all of the many, many, products I've seen this Orijen Dog Food is in a class of its' own, and surely sets the benchmark for all others.
Here's Proof!: ORIJEN has now been awarded "Best Pet Food of the Year for 2010-2011" by the Glycemic Research Institute, which is a pro bono and independent certification.
I KNEW IT WAS GOOD!!
Merricks CANNED has held the Best Pet Food Of The Year title every year since way back from 2005-2006, which in itself is a formidable achievement.
(*) Australian quarantine uses a high level of the irradiation sterilization process, which can spoil the stability of this product. For this reason it is not shipped to Australia.
It is understood that the level of irradiation used is even far higher than that used for human consumption products.
With some dubious ingredients, in some pet foods, this is an understandable position for Australia to take, but it does, and will continue to, exclude many products from being available in Australia.
Hopefully in the not too distant future there will be a system that is determined by the quality of the ingredients, rather than a "one size fits all" approach, because Orijen is certainly chock full of human grade ingredients, and should perhaps be judged on that criteria level.
Let's hope that one day Aussie dogs will also get to enjoy this top notch product!
Whilst Orijen Dog Food takes line honours for me there are three other excellent dry dog foods which the links below will take you to.
I like to give variety so if you wish to do the same a bag of each could be the way to go!
I do know that whether you decide on one, or all four products, by using any of these foods, as all or part of your feeding option, your dog is in very good hands!
